Avista Resort (Kata Beach)
The absolute peak season is coming very soon - the period around Christmas and New Year is very very busy for me at the dive shop.. already busy now! Personally, I think home is the place to be for Christmas, but seems that thousands disagree and want such strange things as sun, sea and sand. And of course, a nice place to stay. It's odd that with the so called global recession over the last 2 years there are still new hotels popping up in Phuket. It's hard to keep up sometimes with the new hotel names.
I had already read about the Avista Resort and noticed that it was due to open in November. Some customers from the dive shop were staying there a couple of weeks ago. I drove them to the resort, only a few minutes drive from the dive shop and my first thought was "wow, this really does look new!" I reckon the paint had hardly dried, everything was immaculate. Our customers might have been the first to use their room! Also I was struck by the open plan of the hotel, lots of space, lots of fresh air - it's slightly up the hill from Kata beach, built into the hillside.
My customers were impressed by Avista, said it was very modern and technologically advanced with very friendly staff. The reviews on Agoda are decent, though mention a few flaws that will surely be ironed out - and I think the early customers can't complain too much as the hotel was doing a rather good soft opening offer. Looks like a top choice for a hotel around Kata Beach.

Hey Jamie!
That does look very nice and some great views (at least from that room). Last time in Phuket we stayed at Kata Noi at Mom Tri's and I have to say that for the price the service was outstanding, not to mention the views and the grounds. Only problem is that Kata Noi is pretty darned quiet at night. Well, it's a problem for me, maybe not so much for others :>)
I will definitely be keeping Avista in mind though next time we come to Phuket.
Hi Steve,
I'd say that Mom Tri's Villa Royale is a bit special - a unique kind of place, whereas Avista is a larger resort, very modern looking, less of a hideaway than Mom Tri's, but looks a good bet - and they are doing special prices at the moment.
I too had customers stay there recently and they loved it! Looks like a good one and loving the intro rates ;)
Hi Jamie,
My 31 year old daughter and I are coming to to Thailand end of April, early May next year.
We came 4 years ago and stayed at Merlin Beach Resort at Patong and we loved it.
We would like to go somewhere different but of the same quality. Perhaps somewhere that is a bit quieter than Patong but also has shopping and restaurants as well. I guess we want it all. What do you recommend. My daughter wants a swim up bar. Thanks Janice
Hi Janice,
Yes Avista - good choice. Short walk to Kata beach, lots of restaurants within a 10 - 15 minute walk, the resort does have a swim up bar, and Kata is way quieter than Patong ..

Cheers!
Hi Steve,
Thank you for the recommendation! I will be visiting Phuket next month and will definitely give Avista a try :) How much will I be expecting to pay for transport from the airport to the resort? Avista is charging THB 2,500 for a round trip.
If you get a taxi at the airport, about 800 Baht for a "limo" or about 600 Baht for a meter taxi to Kata beach. On the way back .. the average taxi you see on the street or hanging around hotels will charge 1000.
