Hotel Recommendation: Mom Tri's Villa Royale
The location of this small luxury resort (only 26 rooms/suites) is nothing short of perfect. Built into the rocks in between Kata and Kata Noi beaches, overlooking Kata Noi, secluded and yet only a few minutes drive from the center of Kata with plenty of dining options in case you get bored with all that fancy food they serve at the hotel... Villa Royale has some of the best restaurants in Phuket too. But please do expect to pay top prices for the experience! I would gladly eat there, but might have to sell something first. Mom Tri, if you read this blog, we'd love an invite :)
Mom Luang Tridhosyuth Devakul aka Mom Tri is a renowned architect and is related to the Thai royal family. His famous Boathouse Hotel opened 20 years ago and has long been one of the best known, best loved hotels in Phuket. One of these days (I might need to buy some nice clothes first) we'll go for dinner there! The Villa Royale was built on the site of his home in Phuket. His life history is quite interesting. Sure he was from a rich family, but he seems to have been a real pioneer in Phuket tourism. There is an article about his life (.pdf file) on the Boathouse website here.

Mom Tri's Villa Royale is just perfect, we recently stayed a couple of nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The meals at Mom Tri's Kitchen were not as expensive as we thought they would be and absolutely delicious.
we stayed here last year, and it made the holiday for us. while it is a luxury resort, the attraction for me is not the luxury. I dont think it is that luxurious. it is a small boutique hotel with relaxed environment, with the perfect location.
Of course the thai staff are very accomodating. And the meals are divine. but jamie you dont need you best suit.... pants and shirt is all that is required.
And over the 2 hotels, they have lots of dining options, so you dont have to eat at the royale every night. we only ate dinner there once, but ate at the boat house twice.
i can recommend.
Hi Jamie,
Actually I would like to offer you to put one of your posts, every week, on our blog http://www.movethailand.com/blog/
Of course at the top of the post we would mention your blog with a link to it.
This way we could offer our readers more information about Phuket (we only talk about Bangkok right now) and you could reach a new audience.
Maybe if I have enough time I would also translate your post in French for the French part of the blog. Also mentionning the original blog of course.
Let me know if you are interested.
Thanks
Bart
