Hotel Recommendation: Burasari (Patong Beach)
Now I admit Patong Beach is not my favourite place in Phuket... I hardly ever go there unless I have to, BUT although this blog is called "Jamie's Phuket", one must concede that many people stay in Patong and many people like to stay in a "lively" location with plenty of bars, shopping, restaurants, Starbucks, banana boats and tailors. Not everyone likes the quiet places, so ... if you DO like Patong, there are some good hotels, indeed some excellent hotels.
The Burasari is quite a fancy boutique resort with about 180 rooms of different styles and sizes. High season rates from 4,000 - 10,000 Baht/night. Low season you can stay for a little over 2,000 Baht! There are many different room types from Classic to Premier and Elite. Then you have the individually designed "Mood" rooms which are huge and have names such as Mocha Spice, Sweet Dream, Serene Sand and Blue Breeze. Patong is outside, but when you are in the resort with several pools, mini waterfalls and gardens, it's very peaceful.
The Burasari got a huge boost last year when Keith Floyd, the wine loving TV chef opened Floyds Brasserie in the resort. Looks great, and if I was feeling rich, I might just go one day!

Hi there Jamie, love your website. My fiance and I are going back to Phuket for our honeymoon late September, early October - first time there was last year July and loved it. Stayed at the Evason last year and having our Honeymoon at the Indigo-Pearl resort. I am happy to see you think both are great resorts. On the news here in New Zealand we have seen protests in Bankok and Phuket, do you think things have calmed down a little now?
Yes things have calmed down. Mind you I never saw anything anyway aside from the silly 2 day airport closure. No worries. You will have a great honeymoon so long as it's not raining. By the way, the Phuket Vegetarian festival starts September 28th - try to see some of it!
Jamie, great site. Nice to find some unbiased opinions on hotels in the area. We are planning a two week trip to Thailand with a 5.5 year old and a 4 year old in the first half of January. Would you be able to mention a few of the better family resorts where we could leave the kids in a decent kids club, but not be so isolated that we are hostage to overpriced hotel restaurants kind of thing. Not really after nightlife, but would like to have relatively easy access to something other than resort hotel. Thanks much
Lots of resorts with Kids Clubs - Club Med, Kata Beach resort, Holiday Inn, Ramada, Hilton, I mean any of the big resorts will have one. The ones I mention above are all at Kata or Karon beaches and close to plenty of dining options.
