Karon Princess Hotel at Karon Beach

You can find a number of smaller mid price resorts along Karon Beach, as well as big resorts such as Hilton. Karon even has backpackers rooms. I'd say that the mid range hotels are all pretty decent, but the Karon Princess gets good reviews on TripAdvisor, and I just noticed that for the low season (May - October) you can stay for just 950 Baht per night! Check the late booking prices! High season rates are more like 4,000 Baht per night. This is not unusual - the low season is a great time to visit Phuket! But it rains all the time, I hear you cry... Not true. Weather is normally very nice - check my weather blog:

Karon Princess is on the beach road, close to the area called "Karon Center" where you have a good selection of restaurants and bars. Karon is pretty quiet, certainly when compared to Patong, which is about 7km north. In the low season, Karon is very quiet, despite the bargain hotel prices - I can't promise you'll have 3km of beach to yourself, but come in the off season and you can certainly avoid the crowds.

The resort has 86 rooms, some with seaview, some with "garden view", but in any case just a minute to the beach. The "deluxe" rooms are slightly larger and have internet access too. There is also 1 suite, low season rate about 2000 Baht per night. There's a pool and kids pool, a sunset restaurant and bar, and a spa too where they do massage, aromatherapy and body scrubs among other things. Karon Princess is a bargain right now and not a bad price even in peak season. On the beach, good location (I like Karon beach), all the facilities you need, easy to recommend!

Following your recommendation on this hotel, we booked it, and the experience wasn't as good as expected.

There were building (or reparing) a hotel next to Karon Princess, and they started working at 7:55AM. So after a late arrival we didn't get almost any sleep.

After that, before booking we checked online if it had internet available, and they did, quoting their website:

"Special Service
• Deluxe and Junior suite – Special service with Internet connecting port private in room 24 Hrs."

So i expected that if I booked a Deluxe room I'd have internet 24hrs for free, but there was my mistake, when I got there they had to fit an ethernet plug, or something like that, and they wanted to charge me 600baht for 24hrs. internet, almost 60% of the room rate.

Good thing I just booked for one night, and the next day I moved to the CC Blooms, that looks perfect!

Ah yes, I see on TripAdvisor the last review mentions building work next door. I better take a drive along the beach and have a look...

As for the internet - sneaky b*ggers! I guess it does not say "free" on their website, only "special service".

If you are the Stickman from Bangkok - and thus living here.. I'd suggest you look at the CDMA internet from CAT. You can install software on your laptop in a few minutes and the hardware is a 2 inch modem that plugs into the USB port, so you can take it anywhere. Only I am not sure they have the service in Bangkok... means you are not at the mercy of hotel internet rates and don't need to go looking for free wireless.

Well, thanks for the heads up,I'm not that stickman, but I know him, as I checked his webpage on WiFi along thailand.

I'm the spanish stickman ;)

On the other hand, I've got wifi in CC Blooms, and in the Mountain View Resort next to it (even though this last one is WPA protected, but as I had to stay here for one night they gave me the password)

BTW, it looks like you're well known here, Skip, the owner, to whom we mentioned we had references for CC Blooms reading Trip Advisor and your blog, seems to know you.
