Places to visit close to Phuket

If you are coming to Phuket, no need to limit yourself to the confines of the island. Within a couple of hours drive or boat ride are some amazing places. Phuket has many beautiful areas, but just off the island are the amazing limestone carsts of Phang Nga and Phi Phi, and the huge Khao Sok National Park. Explore!

Seaplane flight to Phi Phi
• Chumphon (400km from Phuket, my wifes home town)
• Prachuap Khiri Khan (another 150km past Chumphon)

To come - Khao Lak, Krabi and more - if I have time and money for a holiday! Phuket is a great starting point for all kinds of trips. A great base for exploring this part of Thailand.

Hi Jamie,
I'll be going Krabi end of this year but I sort of miss Phuket. How long would it take if I drive to Phuket?

We actually did Krabi and back one day last year - we had meant to stay overnight, but did not... from our house the drive to Ao Nang was about 2 1/2 hours (we live near Phuket Town). It's not too far and I'd like to do another day trip one day - get to Ao Nang, get a boat to Railey. You can also get the ferry from Krabi back to Phuket, takes around 3 hours in all.

Thanks Jamie. Seems like a good idea to drive to Phuket. Will consider that and probably try out seafood in one of your recommended restaurants.

There's great scenery for much of the drive, especially from Krabi through to Phang Nga - you'll pass the Samchong Seafood restaurant on the way, after you pass Phang Nga.
